The lack of Omega 3 affects mood

dietary deficiencies in omega-3 fatty acids may affect the emotional stability, suggests a study of the Mediterranean Institute of Neurobiology, National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM ) of France in Marseille and Bordeaux University published in the journal Nature Neuroscience.

The scientists, led by Olivier Manzoni and Sophie Laye discovered that mice whose mothers were fed a diet deficient in omega-3 during pregnancy and were reared with the same deficient diet, showed behaviors suggestive of increased anxiety and depression, compared with mice raised on a diet balanced. The analysis of brain tissue from mice deficient in omega-3 revealed the lack of a type of synaptic plasticity in two regions of the brain, the prefrontal cortex and nucleus accumbens prelímbica, which have already been involved before in emotional and behavioral disorders mood. According to the authors conclude, this is the first time that there is a biological explanation the relationship between a diet low in omega-3, common in industrialized countries, and certain diseases such as depression.

The omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids, which despite being essential to health can not be synthesized by the human body, so it is necessary to obtain food (mackerel, tuna, salmon, vegetables green leaf ...).
